Passing Lane started the way most good ideas do. Out of frustration with something that should work better.
We are a small family business based in California. Between our five kids and a handful of nieces and nephews, we have watched more than a few of them sit down for the DMV permit test completely unprepared and walk out without passing. That is not a knock on them. The reality is that California’s permit test failure rate is high, and most of the study tools available just are not built to actually help teens learn.
So we built one that is.
California is home to one of the largest Hispanic communities in the country, and many of our own family members and friends navigate daily life in both English and Spanish. Building Passing Lane in full Spanish was not an afterthought. It was a priority from day one. Every question, every screen, and the full parent guide are available in Spanish because every teen in California deserves the same shot at passing that test, and every parent deserves to be part of the journey, regardless of the language spoken at home.
Passing Lane is our first app and the beginning of something we care a lot about. Our focus is education: tools that make the hard parts of growing up a little easier to navigate, for both kids and the parents trying to guide them through it.
The app itself is built for teens. The guide inside it is built for parents. Because getting a license is not just about passing a test. It is about preparing a new driver to be safe on the road. We wanted one place where families could find the prep, the resources, and the guidance to get there together.
We are just getting started.
